GAMBLIN PAINTING MEDIUMS FOR OIL PAINTS
Gamblin manufactures high-quality, modern painting mediums for oil painting. All Gamblin mediums can be mixed with each other to enhance or alter their properties. If you want to speed up the drying time of any Gamblin medium, add Gamsol. Temperature, humidity, and the thickness of layers affect the drying times mentioned below.
We also offer Gamblin oil paints, known for their excellent painting feel due to their rich consistency, as well as Gamblin relief inks for woodcuts and other relief printing. These colors are also of professional quality!
QUICK-DRYING (1-2 days)
GALKYD
An alkyd-based painting medium for thinning oil paints. Speeds up drying. Adds fluidity and gloss. When used generously, it smooths brushstrokes and creates a strong, flexible, enamel-like surface. Excellent for layering techniques. Does not yellow. No thinning required.
GALKYD LITE
An alkyd-based painting medium for thinning oil paints. Speeds up drying. Highly fluid, semi-glossy. When used moderately, it leaves brushstrokes visible. Excellent for layering techniques. Does not yellow. No thinning required.
GALKYD GEL
A thick, alkyd-based painting medium for oil paints. Speeds up drying. Retains the thickness and brushstrokes of oil paints. Excellent for impasto techniques. Does not yellow. No thinning required.
MEDIUM DRYING TIME (3-4 days)
GAMBLIN SOLVENT-FREE FLUID
Adds fluidity and transparency. Medium drying time. Mix with paint up to 25%. Use in thin layers to prevent wrinkling during drying. Made from safflower oil and alkyd. Non-toxic, contains no Gamsol or other solvents. For underpainting, it is recommended to thin with Gamsol.
NEO MEGILP
A thick, alkyd-based painting medium for oil paints. Speeds up drying somewhat, but leaves working time. Makes oil paints more fluid and adds transparency and a silky finish. Leaves brushstrokes visible. Excellent for impasto and wet-on-wet techniques. Does not yellow. No thinning required.
SLOW-DRYING (4-6 days)
For oils, use a 50% oil + 50% Gamsol mixture.
COLD WAX MEDIUM
A thick, beeswax-based paint medium and varnish for oil paints. Dries slowly. Makes oil paints thicker and more matte. Excellent for palette knife and impasto techniques. The hardness of the painted surface is similar to that of a wax candle. Can be added to Gamblin mediums to increase their matteness. Can be used as a varnish on its own. Does not yellow. Can be thinned with Gamsol.
REFINED LINSEED OIL
Bleached linseed oil for oil paints. Mixed with 50%+50% Gamsol thinner, it creates a traditional, slow-drying painting medium. Use sparingly when not thinned.
STAND OIL
Thickened linseed oil for oil paints. Dries slowly. Adds fluidity and gloss. Mixed with 50%+50% Gamsol thinner, it creates a traditional, slow-drying, sticky painting medium. Use sparingly when not thinned to avoid a wrinkled surface.
COLD PRESSED LINSEED OIL
Cold-pressed linseed oil for oil paints. Traditional and unbleached, slightly yellows colors. Mixed with 50%+50% Gamsol thinner, it creates a traditional, slow-drying, sticky painting medium. Use sparingly when not thinned.
GAMSOL THINNER
GAMSOL
The best thinner for artist use!
Odorless, slow-evaporating thinner for thinning Gamblin mediums and oils and speeding up drying. Also suitable for oiling out works with a 50%+50% Gamsol + Galkyd mixture to deepen sunken colors. Slow evaporation means fewer harmful vapors in the workspace air compared to fast-evaporating thinners. Its high flashpoint reduces fire risk. Does not easily absorb through healthy skin!
